Physical therapy and veterinary collaboration


Dog Rehab Works, LLC is a physical therapist-owned and operated canine rehabilitation practice. Veterinary medicine is not performed by Dog Rehab Works. Physical therapy services are provided following veterinary medical clearance and in collaboration with the referring veterinarian.

As a licensed Physical Therapist and Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist, Mamie Whitman, PT, CCRT, APT applies principles of physical therapy and rehabilitation to help dogs improve mobility, function and quality of life following surgery, injury, or neurologic and orthopedic conditions. Collaboration with the veterinary team helps ensure rehabilitation complements each patient's overall medical plan.

Post-operative Rehabilitation Following CCL Surgery: 

  • Systematic review evaluating evidence for physical rehabilitation following surgical treatment of canine cranial cruciate ligament disease.

Physical Rehabilitation following TPLO:

  • Randomized prospective clinical trial of 48 dogs evaluating physical rehabilitation following TPLO. Dogs receiving rehabilitation demonstrated greater postoperative peak vertical force than dogs that did not receive rehabilitation, and rehabilitation was associated with greater light-to-moderate activity.

  • Study examining the effects of controlled physiotherapy in dogs with suspected degenerative myelopathy.
